All In A Family" featuring Loudon Wainwright III, Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche

All In A Family
6-23-2019

Enjoy an evening of thoughtful songs and familial harmonies with Grammy Award-winning American Folk singer Loudon Wainwright III and acclaimed songwriters Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche.

Loudon’s long and illustrious career is highlighted by more than two dozen album releases, a plethora of movie and TV credits, and now his new autobiography, “Liner Notes". In the 1970s he penned the classic "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road" and "The Swimming Song." And in 2010 he won a Grammy for the Best Traditional Folk Album for “High Wide & Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project.” And his 2012 recording, “Older Than My Old Man Now,” was named one of NPR’s Top 10 Albums of the Year. His songs have been recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs, Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Rufus Wainwright and Mose Allison. He’s penned music for the British theatrical adaptation of the Carl Hiaasen novel “Lucky You,” topical songs for NPR’s “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered” and ABC’s “Nightline,” and recorded several songs for the soundtrack of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.” Loudon has appeared in films directed by Martin Scorsese, Tim Burton, Cameron Crowe and Judd Apatow. And you may remember him as Captain Calvin Spalding, the “singing surgeon,” on the television show, “M*A*S*H.”

Suzzy’s career in music began when she and her two sisters founded The Roches, a vocal group known for their rich harmonies, quirky lyrics and casually comedic stage performances. An acclaimed singer-songwriter in her own right, Suzzy has recorded two solo albums, has written two books, appeared in film (remember Marilyn in Crossing Delancey) and has taught at NYU and Princeton. These days Suzzy enjoys singing on the road with her daughter Lucy Wainwright Roche. Lucy & Suzzy recorded their first CD “Fairytale and Myth” which won the popular vote for "best singer/songwriter album of the year" for the Independent Music Awards 2014 and released their second recording “Mud & Apples” in 2016.

Lucy is the daughter of singer-songwriters Loudon Wainwright III and Suzzy Roche, and the half-sister of singer-songwriters Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright. Initially bypassing the family career to teach, Lucy later made the decision to pursue music full-time. In 2008 she was one of the winners of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival’s “Emerging Artist” competition, and the following year, her song “Snare Drum” earned her the Independent Music Award for "Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter Song." Lucy released her debut album, “Lucy,” in October 2010 and has opened for such acts for the Indigo Girls, Dar Williams, Girlyman, Amos Lee, her father Loudon Wainwright III and Rufus Wainwright. She has also has sung backup for Grammy-nominated artist Neko Case, including an appearance with Case on the “Late Show with David Letterman.”
