Eric Clapton calls Sonny Landreth "the most underestimated musician on the planet and also one of the most advanced.”
Sonny Landreth, The King of Slydeco returns with a brand new album, “Blacktop Run.” And, once again, working within the surprisingly broad genre of Louisana blues, he cranks out beautiful, stunning music that never fails to pull you into his world. Landreth’s groundbreaking work has long mixed familiarity with experimentation, and this latest 10-song collection stretches from hard-edged electric instrumentals to wistful acoustic ballads. After two Grammy nominations, multiple appearances at Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival and wide-ranging acclaim from fellow players and fans worldwide, Landreth is looking forward to playing the new material live.
“The genius of Landreth’s playing is his lyricism. His playing is clean and pretty, with a tone like a violin. …he dazzles with slide lines that have the natural beauty of a bird gliding along a gust of wind.” - Blues Rock Review
Sonny cut his musical teeth in The Red Hot Louisiana Band of zydeco king Clifton Chenier, and has since recorded and toured with artists like John Mayal, John Hiatt, Derek Trucks, Junior Wells, John Mayall, Irma Thomas, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Kenny Loggins, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Vince Gill, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton and hundreds of other world-class artists. This Louisiana based Blues guitar wizard's slide playing is distinctive and unlike anything else you've ever heard, where he simultaneously plays slide and fingers the fret board producing a sound that is often said to resemble many instruments playing at once. At the peak of a song he can lift you right up off your chair. His music encompasses Mississippi Delta blues, zydeco and Southern rock.
