Eric Johnson Electric Band
6-3-2017
Texas guitar legend, Eric Johnson's stature as one of the premier guitar players in contemporary music is his artistic trump card, backed by a Grammy Award and five nominations, a platinum album, Top 10 hits like “Cliffs Of Dover,” praise from critics and the esteem of his peers. Guitar Player Magazine has called Johnson "one of the most respected guitarists on the planet." And he was voted No. 47 on "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time" by Guitar World's readers.
His myriad and distinctive musical gifts are vividly evident on Johnson’s last album, "Up Close," where the master craftsman cuts loose, roaming through variations on the rock, blues, pop, country and jazz all found at the core of his sound, pushing the dynamic range of his artistry, and mixing it up with such friends and peers as guitarists Jimmie Vaughan and Sonny Landreth and guest singers Steve Miller, Jonny Lang and Malford Milligan.
Throughout his career, Johnson has approached music as a healing force, a way to enhance a listener's consciousness and conjure joy and inspiration. "That's what I've always appreciated most about other artists," he says. "Some artists inspire us to wake up and get back to the clarity of consciousness. With this record, I'm trying to do that too, because I appreciate it so much in other people."
