Curtis Salgado Band
6-22-2014
Blues legend Curtis Salgado's illustrious career spans 23 years. He's the guy John Belushi modeled his legendary "Jake Blues" character after in the "The Blues Brothers", borrowing the songs, the between song raps and even the sunglasses.
Curtis sang and played harmonica for six years with Robert Cray’s band, was lead vocalist for Santana and frontman for the national blues acts, Roomful of Blues and The Nighthawks. In 2010 and 2013 he won "Blues Music Award" for Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year. In 2013 he also won for BB King Entertainer of the Year and Soul/Blues Album of the Year for his newest album, "Soul Shot."
"Salgado has been a guest artist on stage with Bonnie Raitt, Muddy Waters, Albert King, B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland, Albert Collins and many more.
In 2006 he was diagnosed with liver cancer and given 8 months to live unless he received a liver transplant. While on the waiting list, his musician friends held an All-Star Benefit Concert for him. The performers included Steve Miller, Robert Cray, Everclear, Taj Mahal, The Phantom Blues Band and Little Charlie & the Nightcats. During the year that he was unable to work, good friend Bonnie Raitt paid his rent. Salgado had a successful liver transplant in 2006 and has been cancer free since.
Curtis Salgado is one of the most down-to-earth, soulful, honest singers ever, and his harmonica work is positively smoking. Or, as Blues Revue put it "Triumphant, joyful blues-soaked R&B...one of the most soulful, honest singers ever"
