Brittany Fund Boston Marathon Fundraiser
3-10-2017 (Studio Room)
In April of 2013, Brittany Loring, was waiting for her friends at the finish line of the Boston Marathon when the bombings went off. Brittany had been badly injured in the bombings and endured many operations and months of rehabilitation. Brittany received an outpouring of care and support from the community and realized that not every traumatic incident is notorious and that not every person receives that same level of support and care. This led her to start the Brittany Fund for Trauma and Recovery (BFTR). The funds distributed through this fund help recipients alleviate some of the financial burden so they can focus on their recovery.
On Monday, April 17th, Groton-Dunstable teacher, Mollie Kavanagh, will be running her first ever Boston Marathon. As a recreational runner since college she has completed numerous 5k’s, 10k’s, and half marathons. In 1998 she ran the Marine Corp Marathon, which satisfied her dream of running a marathon. When Mollie found out that Brittany had room on her team, she did not hesitate to apply. The Loring's had done so much for her family and had given so much to the community, that she wanted to be part of this wonderful cause. The creation of BFTR was so inspiring and motivating that Mollie decided to come out of marathon retirement and greatly appreciates your support as she raises money for this great cause!
