The Ike Willis Project with special guest Micki Free

The Ike Willis Project with special guest Micki Free
4-28-2018

Ike Willis was the singer and guitarist for Frank Zappa for many years. He first joinied Zappa's band for the fall 1978 tour and remained for several years. Ike didn't tour with Zappa in 1981 and 1982 for personal reasons, but returned for his final two tours in 1984 (which Zappa intended at the time to be his final tour) and 1988. Willis is most recognized for his involvement in Zappa records such as playing Joe in “Joe's Garage,” providing vocals on “Tinsel Town Rebellion,” “You Are What You Is” and “The Man from Utopia,” and as the title character and narrator in Zappa's off-Broadway-styled conceptual musical “Thing-Fish.”

Micki Free won his Grammy as a member of the platinum selling band Shalamar. He was later a part of the critically acclaimed Crown of Thorns. Since then he has put out 3 solo Blues/Rock releases. Micki Free’s “Tattoo Burn” has been recently rereleased by Mysterium Blues Records and the response has been great. He now has multiple songs charting all over blues radio, the press has been eating it up with great reviews. Ultimately he is most famous for one line in the Dave Chappelle skit, Skins vs Blouses basketball game, with Prince taking on Charlie Murphy and his crew, and the line, “Micki Free is Not a Girl.”
