Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven - Acoustic Apothecary Tour
7-16-2014
With David Lowery, Johnny Hickman & Greg Lisher
For 20 years, frontman David Lowery and guitarist Johnny Hickman have made up the core of "Cracker," who have been described as a lot of things over the years: alt-rock, Americana, insurgent-country, and have even had the terms punk and classic-rock thrown at them. But more than anything David & Johnny are survivors, amassing nine studio albums (their most recent, 2009's critically acclaimed "Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey"), multiple gold records, thousands of live performances, hit songs ("Low," "Euro-Trash Girl" and "Get Off This" to name just a few) that are still in current radio rotation around the globe, and a worldwide fan base, that despite the major sea-changes within the music industry, continues to grow each year. The band's first two albums, "Cracker" and "Kerosene Hat," fused folk and punk influences with bar room blues at a time when Seattle rockers like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains ruled radio airplay.
In addition, as special support for this performance, David Lowery will open with another semi-acoustic set performing songs from his other influential indie-rock band Camper Van Beethoven, also featuring longtime CVB guitarist Greg Lisher. So essentially, this will be a Double Duo show featuring the music of Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, the latter who just released El Camino Real, the companion studio album and follow up to their highly lauded La Costa Perdida LP from last year.
Many Cracker fans (the most dedicated call themselves "Crumbs") have followed Lowery's 30-year musical path since he formed Camper Van Beethoven back in the 1980s.
