Jefferson Starship
10-9-2013
Jefferson Starship descended from Jefferson Airplane, which was formed by Paul Kantner and Marty Balin in 1966, and who were the biggest rock group in America during the 1960s and the first San Francisco band to sign a major record deal, paving the way for other legends like Grateful Dead & Janis Joplin. They performed at Monterey and Woodstock, at Altamont with the Rolling Stones, and shared the bill countless times with The Dead, Joplin, Quicksilver, etc. In 1996 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with Pink Floyd.
In 2007 Starship headlined “The Summer of Love 40th Anniversary Celebration” and performed at The Monterey Pop commemorative on the exact same stage as the historic landmark rock festival of 1967. They have played over 2,000 concerts since they first soared in 1974, continuing to perform their iconic repertoire of hits spanning all eras of their existence, including “Jane,” “Somebody To Love,” “White Rabbit,” “Miracles,” “Volunteers,” “Count On Me” and many more.
Jefferson Starship is: Paul Kantner - Rock & Roll Hall of famer and founder of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship; David Freiberg - also a former Jefferson Airplane member and co-founder of the legendary Quicksilver Messenger Service; Cathy Richardson - who owns (believe me, she owns it) the historic ‘role’ made famous by Grace Slick. She has portrayed Janis Joplin in the original Off Broadway cast of the hit show “Love, Janis” and sings with Janis' original band members, Big Brother and the Holding Co; Mark "Slick" Aguilar - Starship's lead guitarist for the last 28 years and only the 3rd person to hold that position in the 40 year history of both legendary bands; Donny Baldwin - famed drummer of the Jerry Garcia and Elvin Bishop bands; Chris Smith - has played keyboards with The Supremes and Lou Bega and had music in the hit series "CSI."
