ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD

ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD

10-29-2016

Blues super group, Royal Southern Brotherhood, has a brand new CD “The Royal Gospel” on RUF Records. And like all super-groups, they have evolved. It may have taken a shake-up to get there, but the entire journey has been well worth it. With the amazing Cyril Neville on vocals & percussion and Yonrico Scott still anchoring down the drums, we now have Nashville's Bart Walker and Austin Texas guitarist Tyrone Vaughan as the new ace guitarists. And newest member Darrell Phillips on bass make RSB the most rock-solid, funky blues bands on the planet.

Cyril, who is known for his amazing vocals and percussion skills as a member of the Grammy Award winning "Neville Brothers" and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees "The Meters," says "As far as the men making the music and playing the songs, the mission of the band has never changed. The way we did this record is the way it was done back in the day, live in the studio, everybody eyeball to eyeball. You don’t hear take 41. Maybe two takes at the most, and the gumbo is cooked.”

It's chemistry. You either have it, or you don't. And when the five members of RSB convened in February at Dockside Studios, Louisiana, there was magic in the air. Just seven days later, they emerged triumphant with "The Royal Gospel," the fourth album in their rocket-heeled rise and further proof of a lineup born to play together. And while Cyril's history may speak for itself, it was his 2013 solo release "Magic Honey" that satisfyingly received critics praise and multiple accolades from around the world including 4 Offbeat Music Awards and a Blues Foundation nomination for "Best Contemporary Blues CD." “It’s not often that you find a connection like me and Cyril,” says guitarist Tyrone Walker, whose Nashville home is some 800 miles from Neville’s base in New Orleans. “It got to the point where we were almost in each other’s heads - and we had already worked out what the other one was gonna say.” “The whole record is geared toward making a joyful noise,” says Neville, “but while we’re partying, we still need to be thinking about what’s going on around us.” And what's going on around them is a whole lot of magic.

Get a signed copy of "The Royal Gospel" at this show and you will go home with a smile on your face and a brand new groove in your heart.
